Is Your Training Application Ready?
Who said that every wish/ Would be heard and answered/ When wished on the morning star
Hey guys!
November will soon be upon us, and that means training applications will be opening! Be it for core training or higher specialty, now is the best time to ensure you have the things you need to apply. Remember that you do not need GMC registration to apply for training, rather you MUST have registration before the post starts.
Now we know many of you must have seen this year’s competition ratios and are worried about what this could mean for your road to UK. Please understand what these competition ratios mean.
They are the UK-wide post number and application ratios in that specialty, and it is not different if you were an IMG or not.
You are able to apply for multiple training posts, so when you see an inflated applications section, that does not always mean that everyone applying is only applying for that one post.
On top of that, there are no restrictions based on being an IMG. You get an equal footing in the application process, which is completely merit-based. Naturally, the next question will be about job shortage given the numbers seen, but please remember the NHS operates on training and non-training jobs. Non-training jobs are listed as shortage occupancy for visa purposes and are widely available.
So don’t let anything stop you from pursuing the specialty of your choice!
Song of the Week
This is probably the one song that most people recognize and have heard at some point in their life, but just don’t know what the name is. It’s the national anthem of every person who’s had to fight the good fight, and is in it for the long run. So regale in the beat of Tubthumping by Chumbawamba.
TV Shows to Binge
A satirized version of Chris Rock’s childhood, Everybody Hates Chris gives you insight into the life of an every day kid just trying to make the best of his life, school, and friends growing up in Bed-Stuy, New York during the 1980’s.
